ACADEMIC PARTICIPANTS
+WHEN AND WHERE IS THIS COMPETITION GOING TO BE HELD?
ENGCOMMxMONTREAL will be held in person at the John Molson School of Business on October 12, 2024. This intense, one-day event will feature a six-hour case competition where participants will apply their skills and creativity to solve real-world challenges.
The John Molson School of Business is conveniently located on Concordia University's SGW campus in the heart of downtown Montreal. The campus is easily accessible by the city's subway system, which connects directly to the university through underground tunnels.
+WHEN IS THE DEADLINE TO APPLY?
The application deadline is October 5th. However, since we have a limit of 16-20 teams, we encourage you to apply early to secure your spot!
+WHAT ARE THE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS?
The only requirement for participation is that you must be an undergraduate student currently enrolled at a university.
+CAN I SIGN UP INDIVIDUALLY?
Yes, individual registrations are accepted. We will make every effort to place you on a well-balanced team.
+DOES THE TEAM HAVE TO BE A MIX OF ENGINEERING AND COMMERCE?
While it is recommended that each team includes two undergraduate students with a background in engineering or computer science, and two students with a background in business, this is not a strict requirement. Teams that do not follow this criterion will still be considered and will not be penalized.
+WILL THERE BE NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES?
Yes, there will be several opportunities to network. A dedicated networking event will take place at the end of the day following the final presentations, offering an excellent opportunity to connect with industry professionals and fellow participants. Additionally, you will have the chance to engage with sponsors after the first round of presentations. Our judging panel consists of highly accomplished individuals from the industry, providing a unique platform for you to demonstrate your skills.
+WILL FOOD BE PROVIDED DURING THE COMPETITION?
Yes, participants will be provided with breakfast and lunch throughout the day to keep them energized during the competition. Additionally, a Wine & Cheese networking reception will be held at the end of the event, offering hors d'oeuvres and cocktails.
+WHAT IS THE COMPETITION FORMAT?
The competition will feature 16 to 20 teams, divided into 4 or 5 divisions, depending on the total number of teams. In the first round, each team will work on a 6-hour case and present their solution to a panel of judges. During this round, teams will only compete against others within their division.
Upon completion of the first-round presentations, the winning team from each division will be announced. These division winners will then advance to the final round, where they will present their solutions to a larger audience and an elite panel of judges. The competition winners will be selected from these finalists.
